The worst part about being home sick (aside from the y'know, sick part), is that it gives me way too much time to make with the thinky-thoughts.

Everybody knows by now that I visit the set of Supernatural whenever I get the chance, right? Because really, my show is awesome, the people who make my show are awesome, and if I get to hang out on the fringes and soak up all that awesome, it's a good day.

But. There's been Talk (no, not on the internet talk). And it's pretty much sucking all the fun out of hanging around the set like a dog sucks marrow out of a freakin' bone. Slurp, gone.

Background: there was that one chick who jumped Jensen at a con, right, nobody forgot that. There was also a PA who, in a fit of utter DUMB, tried to sell a SPN script on eBay. Firsthand, I've seen fans scream and yell and ignore polite requests to shut the hell up while they're filming. I've seen PAs ask that people not take pictures but people do it anyway, then post them all over the place like paparazzi in training. I've seen idiot girls sneak into the director's tent (or whatever it's called, because no doubt they have a fancy name for it like they have a fancy name for everything) and stand behind the freakin' director to stare over his shoulder at the monitors. This is all very, very stupid, yes? And the list goes on, yes? Yes.

Obviously, I don't do that shit. And I'd say a good chunk of the people who've ever been on set haven't, either. But it's pretty clear that it's pissing the SPN peoples off (if you have to ask why, I'mma smack you with a spoon). PAs being short-tempered, the boys' bodyguard worrying himself up an ulcer, etc., etc., and really, the whole point of this is that IT'S RUINING MY FUN. My show is supposed to be cool, easy, relaxed, not warily eyeballing any and all passersby wondering if they're going to whip out the fangirl equivalent of an uzi.

I'm sure this bitching is compounded by the fact that I haven't been running in about a week and my tummy is trying to kill me.

In conclusion, I'm a giant dork and all I want to do is hang around and wave at people and chatter with them and generally be dork-like in my dorkish but endearing enthusiasm. This is my sad dork-face that people being dumb ruins that for me. See? ._. Sad.

Maybe you should make up a t-shirt that reads "Non-crazy fangirl. I'm gonna just stand over here quietly, honest." ;P

Seriously, though, it's always the dumb people that ruin a lot of cool things. Cons, the intarwebs, whatever.

I AM ANNOYED. Even more annoyed over the fact that I finally made the connection between PAs leaking things and fans posting it to hey, the PAs are sort of necessary, let's just ban the fans from the set instead.

ANNOYED.

Needless to say, my trip last night? Didn't go. When are we running again, huh?

Oh god. What. The. Fuck? I'll give you a call later and you can tell me the details, but be it known that I'm making a D: D: D: face.

So far as I know, running on Saturday is a go?

That sucks. Why are people so stupid? I mean, what kind of fucked-up thought process is it that goes: I love this show so so much I'm going to be as big a pest about getting it filmed as possible?

I think it's along the same lines as, "Hey, I like you, let me hit you in the head with a pencil! :D"

Which is all fine and dandy when you're FIVE. -_-

The leaking-of-spoilers also seems to be a big issue, and one that's pissing off the suits. Of all the people to piss off, my god, don't piss off the ones with the money. Geez.

I thought most of the spoilers were leaked through the casting sides. O.O

Some are, but there's apparently a good chunk that aren't. I think mostly they're referring to all the unofficial pictures that get posted. I mean, on the one hand, hey, you're doing an outside shoot so of course people can see, but on the other, I guess it's the same as anything--suits don't like too much info leaked.

It came as a surprise to me, too, but seems like they've even identified some of the fans who are doing it. o.O

Huh. The only pictures I've seen were the ones where the boys were walking down a boardwalk-- a really public place.

Maybe I'm not fangirling in the right places. *^_^*

I was there >.< People were climbing onto the roofs of buildings to get those pictures and there was nothing anyone could do, even though people were being explicitely told not to take pictures.

I personally told a girl that, in fact, and she said "*giggle* I'm going up there *point* to get some shots, then"

*headdesk* People don't GET IT.

Well, they are in public. I don't think anyone -should- be able to control people taking pictures in a public place. Now if it was a closed set, that's a different matter.

As far as I'm concerned, these people are fans, who supposedly take a lot of enjoyment from the show that they are fans of, and should be happy that all of these people are working very hard to bring you not just a decent show that will appeal to enough people to stay on the air, but a fabulous show. These people are asking them not to take pictures, for whatever reason, so they should have some respect and just not take them.

It's not going to kill a person not to take pictures when they've been explicitly asked not to take them.

It's minor compared to assaulting one of the actors, yes, but to me it's still a matter of respect.

When I'm at a set, if they say "jump", I say "how high?" because I want to be able to come back!

:( I didn't know about all these things. That's just annoying, man. What is it about some fangirls that makes them think the actors (and anyone else) they swoon over aren't real people?

There's been a lot of this behavior in many fandoms lately, it seems. I think that fandom itself is really the problem - we've trained a whole new generation to think that you show appreciation and affection by ignoring boundaries, glomping, making insanely high noises all the freaking time, explicitly enacting sexual scenarios, etc. They simply do not understand that being respectful and subdued is much more appropriate. I've been hearing about this behavior mostly at cons, and I see it in recordings of panels - the fans simply do not get what questions are appropriate, or that character != actor, or that some people just do not want a hug. It's incredibly upsetting, and I wish there were more to do about it than lead by example, but I think there's more and more discussion of how this behavior is in appropriate, which may help. Unfortunately, this isn't limited to fandom - the paparazzi are teaching everyone that the proper way to show affection and appreciation for a celebrity is to attack them rather than let them live their life.

There's this whole attitude in the US that if you're a public figure, you don't have a right to privacy anymore, it's why the paparazzi haven't even gotten a slap on the wrist for the things they've done (like running Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver, and their daughter literally off the road). And when an attitude is supported legally (paparazzi who have been taken to court have generally won their cases based on this 'principle'), then people start to think they have a right to the public figure, like they own a piece of them. It's disgusting really.

I agree with swordage -- there does seem to be an entire sect of people (not limited to just a new generation, but that is where I've seen most of it at cons) that just...do NOT know what is and what is not appropriate. You don't ask travis if Roy is in love with Ed, okay? Keep your stupid fangirl theories to yourself.

I remember the times when anybody would be mortified for the actor/creator/whatever to find out the sort of stories you were writing about them. And now I hear that people GIVE them to celebs. Wtf.

i am trying not to vomit at what i'm reading here. obviously i don't live in the same universe as some people. cannot imagine how awful it must be to try to be getting some *radically awesome work* done and have idiots show up and try to call attention to their stupidity.

kudos to blue for not "burning a clip in 'em just on principle."

not sure i could have that kind of self-control in the same situation.... sending lots of good set-visit juju your way, and goofer dust to throw at the fanjerks... who don't deserve the illustrious title of 'fangirls'.

Honestly, I'm not surprised. People, including fans and people who claim to be them will do almost anything to make money or prove that they were "the first" to know such information. Take Star Wars for example, after the first movie was a big hit, people tried to visit sets and spy to find information to leak to the media, presumably for cash. Mark Hamil has admitted that even he did not know that Darth Vader was Luke's father until five minutes before the scene was shot.

These "bad" fangirls seem to be growing bolder, one of them grabbed Tim McGraw's package at a concert while his wife was present. She gets kudos for keeping her cool so that charges can be filed against the real bad guy in that case.

I tend to agree with swordage and dragyn. I think the paparazzis' poor behavior just encourages fans to behave poorly around celebrities. They won't get any respect or common decency in regards to privacy, except from the few of us who realize that they are just normal people trying to make a living doing something they enjoy, until the government and the legal system recognize the threat paparazzi pose, and the right all indiviuals have to privacy (privacy is only a privilage if you are under 18 and live with your parents, in my opinion)

I would be absolutely mortified if anyone outside any of the fandoms I write read anything I'd written, adult content or no, so I can't understand why anybody would voluntarily give them anything.

What ever happened to the other boys? I think that Reno at least is getting cranky. You should poke the evil twin. I at least, need a red head fix. Haven't had one since puppy posted her last Saiyuki fic (Ichigo doesn't count as a red head for me he's a strawberry blonde, so he's a blonde). *Sigh*

ITA. If someone is too excited to take direction from someone involved in something they supposedly admire and respect, they deserve what they get. \0~0/ I hope they know we're not all "like that". If things are getting so nutty, I'd rather stay away altogether and let them feel more relaxed; even if I do take direction. This crew is so giving with their stories and their feedback, the least we could do is provide the kind of support they are looking for. spn_postcards (http://community.livejournal.com/spn_postcards/tag/spp) is one way to do that.

Love your stories, BTW. Got here from Crack_Impala.
