I'm running away for a long weekend and will most likely not have much in the way of net access. What I will have is hours and hours of relaxation and brain rot time! So, I ask the all-knowing internets this most important question:

Rec me some damn good console RPGs.

I've beaten the crap out of all the classics, so newer stuff would be best, but don't worry about if I've played it or not. Hell, just list things at me if you want. Which console doesn't matter!

Last Remnant
side quests side quests side quests, an actually gay bartender and a main gay pairing you don't even have to try and justify. Also beautiful graphics and awesome story and characters all around

Infinite Undiscovery
sort of broken in the physics in some places but still adorable and engaging. Very quick to play.

Persona 4
like persona three, except they assume you're a moron and that you should sympathize with homophobia and mysogeny. Strangely addicting anyway.

Valkyrie Profile: Sylmeria
amazing characters, many of them extremely rad women. A battle system that is a lot of fun. A love story that does not feel forced and is instead dorky. And then also SUPER SUPER WRONG in the end, when I think they were going for cute

...we have so many video games...

I second Persona 4. I read an interview with one of the creators that was like, IF THE GAYS WANT TO CLAIM KANJI AS ONE OF THEIR OWN, THEY CAN. WE KEPT IT AMBIGUOUS. Yeah, sure you did. Suuuure.

Argh, sorry, I was trying NOT to spoil and inadvertantly managed to do the opposite. :(

Totally helpful!

You've probably played them, but Digital Devil Saga and Fatal Frame are my two favorite console game (series) of all time. <3 We just finished Nocturne too, and that was really fun.

New stuff, new stuff...um....I am so behind this curve Sorry. -_-;

I adore Fatal Frame! I'm not entirely sure it counts as an RPG, though. But it is terribly fun. And scary.

I... am not sure which consoles you mean! XD But I'm fairly out of touch with current games so I'm not sure it really matters.

The Soul Reaver games are absolutely incredible, and while I'm not sure they're entirely RPGs, they are worth every moment of gameplay. The script alone, my god, the voice acting, unf - Legend of Kain: Defiance (which is also Soul Reaver 3, I think) was the second game I ever actually beat. You can see the intro here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFiLNc46jAM).

This is a bit older, (2005?) but strangely not very well known: Dragon Quest, (something of the) Cursed King. (PS2) It's great gameplay, you can customise your party's abilities (to a certain extent) and it's really low-stress without being boring (like, fairly early on you can teleport to any town you've been to and out of dungeons, which I find very refreshing). And, the storyline is actually interesting and keeps you guessing. I've put something like 80 hours into mine and have stopped playing it because I'm an inch away from clocking it and don't wannaaaa.

Downsides: The characters are a tad random and at first several are extremely annoying. However they become almost charming after you've been playing a while. Also, the main character is one of those 'voiceless' characters that are supposed to be more sympathetic for the player but I just find vague and uninspiring.

Upsides: It does unexpected things! At one point you visit a parallel dimension! And there are mystical androgynous elves! (well, one.) And cool curses! You can go super-sayan! (A fairly obvious heads-up to the art being done by the head Dragonball artist.) It's got many hours of side-games which can be ignored/obsessed over if desired.

Also FFXII is good, if you haven't played it. Some people find it too political but... not really a problem for me.

/end completely random butting in to your journal.

• The whole Shadow Hearts series, if you haven't played it. The second ne, Covenant, is probably the best, but really, they're all pretty strong.

• Mass Effect; a few frustrating elements, but good writing and engaging characters and aside from a truly heinous menu system, good gameplay too.

• Okami: Not sure if it really counts as an RPG, but everyone should play it anyway.
