God, almost eight and a half months reading SPN fic and someone still manages to surprise me. This is beyond the word phenomenal.
The language is so deep. Every part of this hits and hits good. Blow after blow after blow. I'm pretty sure I held my breath until my ribs hurt and reminded me I needed to actually breathe before I passed out. So much intensity. Your Sam is callous, but I can understand him. So damn angry and out for his own personal wins and he's the youngest, so he's not really _thinking_ about what it costs Dean to sacrifice, maybe?
And your Dean is as needy as canon, as selfless and desperate. I want to think the twist of Sam's lips, the one that's not quite a smile, but is something else, isn't just more of Sam's mockery. After all Dean's given him, especially in _this_, how could Dean possibly deserve it?
Really, this is angsty but just geniuinely perfect and I find myself wanting about 12,000 more words. I have a tendency to skim. Too many "writers" blather on, too much description where there doesn't need to be any. But I never skipped a word in this... it's just bloody brilliant.
