Killing off the last hours of 2009.
Dec. 31st, 2009 05:35 pmIn the eight years I've had an online journal (and wow, didn't see that sort of commitment coming when I signed on with LJ), I've never done a year-in-review thingie. Going in to the next decade, I figured, why the hell not.
This is so going to be oodles of tl;dr.
Life or something like it.
Quit my job in May! There was a certain amount of vicious satisfaction when over the summer, another person I know from there left, bringing the tally up to seven people in the two years that I worked there leaving (and we're talking about a company that has approximately thirty employees at any given time) and from hearing that the supervisor who pushed me into leaving got his ass fired, bringing that tally up to five. Since leaving I've had probably only one migraine, as opposed to the one to three per month I used to have.
Started writing original fiction in August! I dabbled a little in university, but not with anything amounting to seriousness. Since August, I've done two firsts drafts of novel-length, several short stories, and even found my balls long enough to submit one.
And by some miracle, I have not yet murdered my neighbours and their poo-filled dogs.
On the fiction frontier!
I apparently did away with whatever remained of my shame and finally succumbed to the glamorous lure of fandom sluttiness. I tried blaming
ponderosa, but honestly, I can probably only blame myself. The meaning of 'blame' here is entirely open to interpretation.
January saw way too many of my contributions to
blindfold_spn, along with three SPN gift fics for
spn_j2_xmas, two of which were fic&pic collabs with the evil twin. It was a neat way to start the year, but ended up signalling the petering out of my writing run for SPN.
Writing then stalled for a few months while I gave serious thought to the merits of mass murder in the workplace, and picked up again when I signed up for
kink_bingo in June.
kink_bingo, I love you.
kink_bingo also heralded my weirdest fandom & pairing yet in CSI's Mike Keppler (aka guy who only has four INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS episodes)/Greg Sanders. The release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, aka Schreibertooth Does Hollywood, along with Tony freakin' Stark, aka the Ultimate Little Black Dress, sucked me straight into comics fandom and oh, oh, it feels so good.
Originals come in with a total of about 200k divided among two novels and five short stories. It is very strange to have 200k of assorted story-shaped things sitting on my computer and not sharing them, lemme tell you.
Supernatural came in with seven finished fics, sharing a total of 60k with a handful I honestly don't think I'm ever going to get around to finishing. That's a first for me for this year, too--generally, if I start it, it gets finished.
X-Men totals up with eight for Victor/Logan, two for Logan/Remy and one for Victor/Remy.
Devil Summoner and Final Fantasy 7 managed to get one fic each out of me and Fringe got two. Transformers came in with one really fun Sam/Bumblebee and one Prime/Lennox. There were four CSI for Mike/Greg, two for Watchmen, both Nite Owl II/Rorschach, and two for Batman, one Joker/Crane and one Joker/Batman, three for the Avengers, all Tony/Steve, and one foray into RPS for X-Men with Hugh/Liev. A mad dash for gift ficlets yesterday added one Boondock Saints for Connor/Murphy, one Shadow Hearts for Blanca/Kurando, and one White Collar Neal/Peter/Elle. Some of these are yet to be posted, along with [pairing] for [fandom] that I wrote for Yuletide, but dammit, they were written this year, so they count.
Tony, the aforementioned Ultimate Little Black Dress, ended up being paired with Jarvis, Logan, Remy, Starscream, Optimus Prime, and Neal. Neal is possibly looking to usurp his title, starting with Remy.
ponderosa suggests I do the end-of-the-year fic meme that's floating around, but omg, one look at that thing and I have no idea what to pick. ALL MY FICS ARE FABULOUS AND MY MOST FAVOURITE THINGS EVAR.
So, next year? Sherlock freakin' Holmes, baby.
