First, [community profile] raremaleslashex reveals happened earlier this week! I wrote two things for it:

With His Need Laid Bare (nsfw), Fire Emblem Fates, Leo/Niles kidnapping roleplay. My recipient had a very open-ended signup, so I figured I would write a story that had themes that were fun for me to work on, and that seemed to go pretty well.

Eyes in the Dark (not explicit), The Magnus Archives, Jonathan Sims/Gerard Kaey. I love the mysterious feel of this canon and the strong sense of voice we get for the characters (as well we should, given the medium!) and Gerard is such a fascinating enigma. So I wrote something in the style of the canon's first-person statements about supernatural encounters. No spoilers for the series, though it's definitely inspired heavily by Episode 12, "First Aid."

Second, I'm dithering over signing up for [community profile] femslashex -- I'm fairly sure I do want to sign up, but I have eight fandoms in mind and only six request slots, so I'm hesitating. I thiiiink I'm leaning toward using the final slot for Devil Survivor 2; all the options I have in mind are long shots, but I think that's the one I have the most unsatisfied feelings about. Girls surviving the demon apocalypse together, man. It's a thing.

Third: it's really rare for me to watch live action TV but the household has consumed the first four episodes of Wynonna Earp recently and I love it. It's not Quality Entertainment by any discerning measure but it's so much fun, this paranormal romp made of violence and sass, and the actors are having a good time and playing off each other really enjoyably. Dolls is my fave, I think, but the competition is fierce. (Please don't spoil me for future episodes; I've done pretty well at not learning what's up with these characters and I want to find out through watching.)

ETA Fourth, I forgot earlier: I've been playing Fate/Grand Order since it released in NA and I'm having a lot of fun with it, ridiculous history and all. My user ID is 161,219,808 if any of you are playing and would like to add me. I just equipped the Moonlight Festival CE on my Archer Support for grinding purposes.

What are you doing for fun these days?

Happy Wednesday!

Instead of writing about the actual Nazi-themed comics Marvel is currently putting out, I’m going to summarize/review the imaginary Captain America and/or Avengers-centric titles I wish existed.

So, this week is the second issue of The Falcon and Captain America, which debuted back in July and which so far seems to be about Sam and Redwing going on a cross-country roadtrip with their sidekick Bucky!Cap, supposedly so Sam can re-introduce Bucky to modern/twenty-first century America. The first issue ended with them driving off into the sunrise/sunset together to start their roadtrip. This one opens with them in costume together in a diner somewhere along the NJ Turnpike debating their route (Sam has a bunch of old-school road atlases, Bucky accuses him of having spent too much time with Steve) while a douchey-looking guy with a pro-Trump hat makes some comment to his buddies about how nice it is to see “the real” Captain America back. Bucky makes a comment to him on the way out about how “the real” Captain America would probably have stopped to teach him a lesson and he’s lucky Bucky’s only the understudy and he and Sam get into their little red hybrid and drive away. Then they fight Overdrive, who’s created a giant traffic jam by altering everyone’s cars into goofy-looking nonfunctional models to protest overconsumption of fossil fuel (power-creep alert – he apparently has “turbo-nanites” now that allow him to affect multiple vehicles at once now). Sam and Bucky eventually talk him down* and convince him that there are better ways to fight global warming than through traffic accidents and maaaybe this was a poor way to go about trying to turn himself into a good guy. It ends with them getting back in the Falcon-mobile and continue on their way. There was a brief flashback during the diner scene to Steve angsting at Bucky before they left (about having been brainwashed into thinking he was HYDRA, so now he knows how terrible Bucky must feel about having been The Winter Soldier), but hopefully that’s not going to be a major theme and we’ll mostly stick with Epic Roadtrip Adventures from here on out.

*This is when you find out that Sam’s car is a hybrid.

Next Week:
X-Women #3 (I still think this is a stupidly gimmicky title given that there have been multiple all-female X-men line-ups before and all of those runs had normal X-book titles, and that they should just make it X-Men: Red or something to go with the new Gold and Blue X-books, but it has Jubilee and X-23 in it, so I'm continuing to give it a chance)

So now I own a dry erase board

So I can make tailored signs for all the damn protests.

I am not a protest person. I hate it. I don't get energized; I get tired. I don't like shouting slogans, I feel ridiculous. I don't like talking to strangers.

But if not me, who? So, I go.

Next one's Saturday.

goddamnit.

I figured out what I really wanted for [community profile] femslashex about two hours after nominations closed, which is "all the SMT4 pairings." Isabeau/Kaga already exists, but also Kaga/Yuriko, Isabeau/Yuriko, Gabby/Yuriko, Hikaru/Yuriko, Hikaru/Isabeau, and basically any and every 3+ combo possible there. The things that would make this most incredibly super awesome are spoilers but my soul is crying.

Ah well. It's a small enough fandom that it wouldn't be likely I'd get a match on it anyway.

I did at least get a start on my [community profile] iddyiddybangbang fic, which is going to scratch some of that itch. I meant for it to be mostly Isabeau/Kaga with a side of Yuriko, but I'm not sure why I thought I could get away with Yuriko being anything but a galvanizing central character. I mean, she's the leader of a feminist chaos cult! Isabeau is so ready for this life-changing experience.

I'm a little afraid the story is going to come out too "babby's first feminist awakening" but fuck the police, I am writing the story my id wants for this character. And between her quietly exasperated state of "why are men like this" for so much of the early game and the fact that she builds a battle party of Pallas Athena, Jeanne d'Arc, and Valkyrie when given the chance, I kinda think Isabeau could use more unapologetic fearless lesbians in her life.
